Zhanaozen is located on the Mangyshlak plateau in the Mangystau region, 60 km from the coast of the Caspian Sea. The city was formed in 1964 and was named from 1968 to 1993 - New Uzen. In 1993, the name Zhanaozen was returned to the city.
The city is known for its oil field: in 1959, exploration work took place at the Uzen field, and in 1961, with the first oil fountain, the history of both the oilfield and the city of Zhanaozen began.
The population of the city is 113 thousand people. After the deserted road from Aktau, at the entrance to the city, everything is pleasing to the eye. The city is surrounded by greenery.
